On 9-12-12 Apple unveiled it’s iPhone 5. After a long time of speculation the curtain was lifted and we got what we expected from Apple.
Their screen is longer:
A 4 inch screen is the most dramatic difference between this and the 4S unit. The issue that I have with this is that the phone now looks very disproportionate compared to what you would expect from Apple. The device seems to lose it’s sleekness in my opinion. It goes against the normal design you get from Apple which has probably the most gorgeous looking devices in the industry.
The Galaxy S3 is a great looking phone and I would say it definitely gets the edge in terms of its exterior presentation now.
The outside shell now ditches the glass backing to give us much more durability with the aluminum. I no longer will worry about hiding my gorgeous looking iPhone rear. This was a great move by Apple. I give them kudos.
The unit now comes with the A6 chip. This is something that I was expecting the iPad 3 to come with. I’m happy with this being in the phone, but it makes me wonder why it missed the iPad 3 launch. The chip is fast and should make this the fastest phone available for you. It’s only 2x faster than the 4S but don’t forget that the 4S is a fast phone already.
Perhaps Apples best announcement during the presentation is the fact that they have improved battery life with the device. This is a shocking event considering they finally have included LTE on their phone which usually means less battery life. However, Apple has done the opposite and given us more. I think this has to do with the fact that their A6 chip is smaller and they can cram a bigger battery in the device. However, I am no expert so this may be because of another reason altogether.
The iPhone needed a significant improvement in what it offers. Apple has shown it’s iOS 6 items in the presentation which look fantastic, but the device fails to push the envelope in terms in innovation. Google’s advancements have been bigger leaps in the past few years in terms of software, and now that they are moving towards making their own phone Apple needs to step up their game. Will the iPhone 5 sell like hotcakes? Of course it will. There are so many people out there who will buy it for the sole purpose that it’s Apples newest gizmo. Should it be the number one selling phone out there? No, I have used the Galaxy S3 and it’s fantastic. I think that this device looks weird and the improvements do not justify a new purchase unless you are still using a 3GS.
