Games, Movies, Banter

And the Award Goes to…

Last night we had the 83rd annual Oscar’s, I’ve compiled a list of the winners for each category for everyone to see. I think I predicted The King’s Speech on our podcast not too long ago when it was announced. Just due to the fact that I have not seen it yet and thats how these things usually go.

Mike’s Likes: Do You Remember XIII?

“The Cell-Shaded Shooter”. That was a tag-line for XIII, an under-appreciated gem from the last console generation. In the end, the game did not sell well perhaps because that tag-line ended up selling the game short. XIII was indeed a first-person shooter with cell-shaded graphics, but it was more than that. If you passed this one by, thinking it was just a gimmick, you missed one of the best FPS’s that the last generation had to offer.

AYCG Podcast Episode #30: Hard on Chicks

Hey kids! Another week, another brand spanking new episode of the AYCG podcast.

This week the squad goes over some of the best “Popcorn films” of all time (don’t worry, we forgot a bunch). We use Google docs to share our notes and as you would expect, hilarity ensues. A few new big movie trailers get released and we’re impressed, well with one of them at least. Uncharted movie, Oz the great and powerful, and a new Pinocchio directed by Guillermo Del Toro (because the original wasn’t scary enough) are all in the way. Also, The Amazing Spider-Man is not a reboot. Yeah chew on that.

And now for some interactive entertainment…

Da Vinci gets kidnapped in the new Assassins Creed Brotherhood DLC. Speaking of DLC, Mass Effect 2 will be getting at least one more, Telltale is making a Walking Dead game, and the Dead Island trailer causes everyone to take notice. Plus the usual what we’ve been playing and watching. Ready. Set. Go! It’s All You Can Geek!

The Guild: Series Review

Well, the past weekend I found myself a little too tired to play video games so I just wanted to relax and enjoy something funny. Turning on my Xbox, I booted up Netflix and was recommended ‘The Guild’. I personally haven’t read any reviews on this web series that is brought to us by Felicia Day, but I have of course heard a little about it since I too am an online game addict with World of Warcraft. So I finally got around to watching the web series and all it’s 4 seasons that we currently have.

We’re Alive: A Review of a Story of Survival

Let’s face it; zombies are the hot thing right now. Pretty much everyone is trying to cash in on the zombie phenomena, and due to that I believe the market is really starting to get flooded with everything zombie. I can’t blame the makers of these products, as they are just trying ways to make money in this troubled world we live in. However, I have to say that if you do choose to create something zombie related, please take notes from these creators, Kc Weyland and Shane Salk. They are currently making a podcast that will just blow you all away.

iPad 2 Announcement Next Week?

On again, off again, on again.  It seems like the rumor that the iPad 2 was getting delayed has been greatly exaggerated.  The WSJ is reporting that the iPad 2 will be revealed next week.  This coming after reports this morning that both the iPhone 5 and iPad 2 were going to be delayed a few months.

Batman: The Greatest Trilogy?

Nolan’s Batman reaches it’s climactic conclusion next summer by the way of Dark Knight Rises.  I wanted to make the argument that this might be the greatest trilogy of all time.  Now quickly people are going to throw out the original Star Wars films, and Back to the Future, and my friend Kent will say that the Bourne Series is an amazing trilogy.  But really think about how amazing these films have been, and what we will be without once Nolan finishes his story.
